12-year-old boys everywhere, prepare for some bad news. Playboy will be ending its tradition of nude photographs in the magazine, according to The New York Times.
This comes after the previous change of taking nude photographs of women off its website last August. The theme will still be there however. According to the Times, racy photos will still be found in the magazine. "like the racier sections of Instagram," wrote the Times reporter. In addition, the new female sex-columnist will be "sex-positive."
This change may be the result of the increasing availability of free pornography over the last two decades. “That battle has been fought and won,” said Scott Flanders, the company’s chief executive to the New York Times. “You’re now one click away from every sex act imaginable for free. And so it’s just passé at this juncture.”
Playboy plans to continue its tradition of investigative journalism, fiction, and in-depth interviews. Playboy has been known to give exceptional interviews. According to the blog Flavorwire, it has interviews Martin Luther King Jr., Bette Davis, Roger Ebert, Steve Jobs, and Vladimir Nabokov among others.
“The difference between us and Vice, is that we're going after the guy with a job.” Mr. Flanders said, to the Times.
