It's hard to determine what is true and what is false in the media today. We are constantly bombarded with both facts and opinions that can frequently blur together into one jumbled mess.
But there are some things that deserve to be told solely through the truth. Such as Planned Parenthood, an organization that is currently being attacked religiously, politically, and even physically in America.
I completely support people standing up for what they strongly believe, but I also support the importance of knowing all the facts before doing so. Many Americans are confused about the current controversy against Planned Parenthood. And the overwhelming media is absolutely no excuse not to give yourself a better understanding before you pick a side.
There is far too much ignorance in the situation. For example, many Planned Parenthood locations at which protesters gather to picket abortion, do not even provide abortion services...
Protestors, shouldn't you have checked that and informed yourself before attacking a place of business?
So here are some facts and numbers about Planned Parenthood that everyone should be aware of:
Funding
Planned Parenthood gets the majority of there money from outside of government funding. While Government Health Services Grants provide $528 million, other contributions make up a whopping $775 million.
As for just that government funding, guess how much of it goes to abortions?
NONE
That's right. By law, Federal funding including Title X funds do not and cannot fund abortion.
Services
Only three percent of all Planned Parenthood services are abortions.
The rest are services that save lives every day such as testing for STDs/SDIs, contraception services, and cancer screening. And these services are used far more frequently and by more Americans than abortions.
Defunding the Title X Family Planning Program will not stop abortions.
Defunding the Title X Family Planning Program will eliminate opportunities for people to access other crucial health services that they desperately need and may not otherwise be able to afford.
So after learning these facts and numbers, please think again: What exactly are you protesting? And what exactly is the goal of your fight?
