I love Starbucks as much as anyone, but I have to admit that occasionally I get tired of going to the same place to get my coffee and crave a different atmosphere. Fortunately, Tuscaloosa has plenty more to offer.

1. Heritage House

Heritage House is a locally owned coffee house that opened back in 1994. The owner has combined her Christian faith and love of coffee to create their unique atmosphere.Their menu is much more than coffee -- they also serve lunch, cakes and pastries. They have three locations, each which a homey atmosphere to study in. If you go, order the Bama Blitz!

2. Nehemiah's

Nehemiah's is a coffee shop built after the Tuscaloosa tornado by the pastor of the Forest Lake Baptist Church, who was inspired by his faith. The shop has everything from espresso to snacks and is a cozy place to study on a rainy day.

3. Monarch Espresso Bar

Monarch is an espresso bar that opened just a few months ago and was created with helped from Kickstarter funds. They offer lots of items including espresso, coffee, tea and even avocado toast. They have a lovely downtown location that you can visit to study and get your caffeine fix.

New England Summers Are The BEST Summers

Why you should spend your next summer in New England.

Three years ago, I chose to attend college in Philadelphia, approximately 360 miles away from my small town in New Hampshire. I have learned many valuable lessons away from home, and have thoroughly enjoyed my time spent in Pennsylvania. One thing that my experience has taught me, however, is that it is absolutely impossible to beat a New England summer.

Yes, the math major is doing a math-related post. What are the odds? I'll have to calculate it later. Many people have probably learned about the Fibonacci sequence in their high school math classes. However, I thought I would just refresh everyone's memories and show how math can be beautiful and apply to physical things everywhere around us with stunning examples.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
