School is starting within the next few days and as always a brand new class of students has started their collegiate career here at UPJ. There are so many things about going to college, and one of them obviously is FOOD! Below are some of the best places on and off campus to definitely try sometime!
On Campus:
1. LLC Café
Although café food is not exactly going to be gourmet cooking, the LLC café is one of the best places to get a meal. Because it’s smaller the food quality is better and you can just use your meal swipes instead of points. There are a decent amount of choices for its size and the overall atmosphere of the café is very relaxing. Definitely recommend going during meal-of-the-month or if you’re willing to make the walk to the LLC.
2. The Grill
A ton of people put this place down as their favorite place on campus. There’s a ton of options from the best grilled cheese to veggie burgers. The staff does an excellent job at making quality food specific to what you want. You’re also going to get a good portion of food and drink for a cheap price. It might take a little longer to make, but it’s worth it in the end.
3. Freshens
Although the newest food establishment on campus it quickly became a favorite. They have healthier options to choose from and come in good sizes. From their rice bowls to their salads you’ll be picking a healthier and filling alternative to something that guarantees getting the Freshman Fifteen. Plus their menu consists of a ton of flavorful options, so you’ll always be able to try something new.
4. Brioche Dorée
This is considered a UPJ staple with a ton of options. It’s perfect carb food that will fill you up. They try to change their menu items so there’s always something new to try. It’s great if you’re just getting coffee to go or sitting down for lunch. Similar to Panera it’s a close and convenient for a little higher end food.
5. Mountain Cat Café
This place is great to order “restaurant” style food and experience sit-down dining. During the week there are great sandwiches and appetizers to choose from. And on the weekends it’s the best place to be for their buffet of fried food and music. It’s a nice change from always having to eat in the café.
Off Campus:
1. El Jalisco
This Mexican restaurant is an excellent option for off campus food. It’s close to campus and is relatively inexpensive so you’ll get your money’s worth. They have an excellent menu and bar selection so whatever you choose you won’t regret it. And nothing is better than their deep-fried desserts which are both fattening and sweet!
2. The Windber Hotel
An extremely popular establishment amongst students. Known for both their food and drinks this is an excellent place to go to when you’re 21. They have excellent wing and beer specials which make this cheaper option to go to. The best part of this place is the character of the restaurant. It’s a dive-bar with a great staff and locals.
3. Pappy’s
A more family-friendly choice this restaurant has anything you could ever want on its menu. It has a crazy and loud atmosphere with a game room in the back so you can indulge in a night of food and fun. Another cheap option to eat at there’s going to be something for someone to enjoy.
4. Asiago Tuscan Italian Restaurant
This is definitely the most expensive choice on this list, but the quality is worth it! The food is incredible and the location is probably one of the best in Johnstown. It’s right at the top of the incline so you can enjoy a ride and a meal. And if you go at night you get the best view of downtown Johnstown.
5. Flood City Café
This is an extremely nice local coffee shop right in downtown Johnstown. It’s a perfect place to go to for a quiet place to study. And they sometimes have speakers or performers come which is always a good excuse to be able to eat there. It’s not as well known amongst students and is growing in popularity. The best thing about this place is it’s atmosphere, despite being in downtown it’s extremely cozy and clean.
