While pizza is surely one of the specialty food items of New Brunswick, few eateries manage to stand out from the rest.
With well over 10 pizzerias in New Brunswick, it’s usually hard to make the decision of where to eat. Consult this list for New Brunswick's top pizzerias, ranked by taste and convenience.
8: Ta-Ta’s, 208 Hamilton St.
Located away from the business of Easton and College Ave., Ta-Ta’s is perfect for the off-campus student looking to grab food on the way to, and from class. Not only is the pizza good and affordable, but the owners offer reasonable deals to students, and are more than willing to cater events for Greek organizations upon request.
7: Pizza City, 145 Easton Ave.
Quietly sitting on the corner of Easton and Bartlett, Pizza City is a classic Rutgers pizzeria. Closing nightly after 3am, Pizza City is open later than most other eateries in town, and provides quick delivery at late hours. While it may not be the absolute best, Pizza City is certainly among the most consistent pizzerias in town.
6: Skinny Vinny’s, 60 Sicard St.
For many of the off-campus students that live away from Hamilton more towards the library, Skinny Vinny’s is perhaps the most convenient pizzeria in town. Famous for their specialty slices and pies, Skinny Vinny’s attracts a lot of foot traffic during the weekend, and has already won the hearts of many hungry off-campus Rutgers students. Be sure to try a baked ziti or chicken parmesan slice.
5: Paulie’s, 34 Easton Ave.
The biggest strength of Paulie’s is certainly its location - adjacent to the Easton Avenue on-campus apartments. The pizza (especially the sauce) is quite exceptional, and the five-dollar personal pie deal proves to be hard for a college student to turn down. With the student deals, and location, considered, Paulie’s is perhaps the most convenient pizzeria for a student on a budget.
4/3: TIE - Nuebie’s / R.U. Grill, 138 Easton Ave. / 142 Easton Ave.
The number four/three spot is a tie between two very similar eateries - Nuebie’s and R.U. Grill. Located next to each other on Easton Ave, the two restaurants boast more than just pizza. While both having diverse menus, featuring grill specialties and Italian entrees, the two eateries are both viable late night options (both closing past 3am). When it comes to pizza, however, R.U. Grill has the slight edge; the biggest surprise is the cheese, which is unexpectedly more flavorful than most of the area’s pizza. Make sure to try the Chicken Caesar and Chicken Bacon Ranch specialty pies from both of these pizzerias.
2: Giovanneli’s, 60 Easton Ave.
Perhaps the most notorious pizzeria at Rutgers, Giovanneli’s is the easiest place to stop and get a slice on the College Avenue campus. It’s placement on Easton Ave., a short walk away from the bus-stop and the apartments, makes it the most convenient option for students. Open the latest in town (until 4am), Gio’s attracts the heaviest amount of traffic in the late night hours; crazy as it is, Giovanneli’s is simply the only place on Easton Avenue with a line out the door at 2am.1: La Familia, 160 Easton Ave.
Of all the pizzerias in town, La Familia has the entire package - tasty pizza, quick delivery (to other campuses), late-night accessibility, and cheap prices. Not only that, but the pizza even seems to have higher quality, with a crispy crust, and fresh toppings. Dedicated patrons will likely tell you to try the buffalo chicken pizza, but you simply can’t go wrong with La Fam. The carryout deals aren’t so bad either!
