Forget about partying, watching Netflix, and sleeping, if you’re like any other college girl, Pinterest is your best friend. While some people just pin things just for the sake of pinning them, why not get some use out of the board you just created. We all know the dorms are a major eyesore when first moving in, so tap into those pinning techniques and make a pin-able dorm room.
Step One: Add color
Upon moving into the dorms, you’ll see a nice shade of “ew.” Draw attention away from the white walls and brown floors by adding pops of color to the room. This is really easy to do when shopping for your dorm. Start with your comforter. Instead of buying a solid color, go with something that has patterns and lots of different colors. Also, try adding some colorful storage bins and even a colored lamp too.
Step Two: Add some lights
There’s no doubt the fluorescent lights in the dorm make the whole room look like a doctor’s office. To avoid this awful look and the headaches that come with the overly bright light, try investing in another form of light to brighten the room. A cute floor lamp can give off more of a warm light and make the room seem more homey. Christmas lights are also all the rage right now. Dangle either colorful or white Christmas lights around your room for a cozy feeling and to add a twinkling effect to the room.
Step Three: Lots of pictures
After leaving your friends, family, and hometown behind for the school year it’s easy to become a little homesick. To curb that feeling, find cute and inexpensive ways to display your memories. Those Christmas lights you just hung around your room can come in handy, use some clips to showcase your pictures on the lights. Or, buy a cork board and pin all your pictures on that. Every few months, change out the photos to be remembered of past memories with your favorite people.
Whether it’s your first time moving into the dorms or you’re coming back for another year, the rooms are always pretty ugly. So, take some tips from your Pinterest board and make your dorm room a place you never want to leave.
