Pineda Covalin is a Mexican fashion brand created by Cristina Pineda and Ricardo Covalin. It was founded in 1996 with the objective of sharing the richness of Mexican traditions and nature with the world by portraying them on scarves and ties.
Perhaps you’ve heard about this brand or seen it somewhere in Soho, but little do we know about how the brand started. Cristina Pineda majored in textile design and Ricardo Covalin majored in industrial design. They started their brand designing only scarves and ties while working with the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH). But, they were people of great ambition and wanted to create a brand of their own, so they created Pineda Covalin. At first, they had to ask for loans from their family and friends, but once they started designing scarves and ties for big corporations, they started gaining recognition. They were inspired by the art of the Mayans and Mexicas. Soon enough, they had bags, shoes, jewelry, and many other accessories in their collections as well.
Through colors, patterns, and shapes, Pineda Covalin became the most recognized Mexican fashion brand in the world. This international brand can be found in over 100 different retail stores including flagship stores in New York, Mexico City and Cancun. You can also find Pineda Covalin in countries such as Canada, Greece, Russia, England, Spain, Japan, South Africa, Nigeria and Peru.
Pineda Covalin proved that there can be a Mexican brand as big as any other international brand. They created a brand that invites people to travel through history and discover the cultural treasures and traditions of Mexico. I couldn’t be prouder about my cultural heritage and country and I hope they continue to expand their unique, colorful, elegant and sophisticated designs all around the world.
