Pi Chi Land

These past few months, I've been in a wonderful place called Pi Chi Land. As a Pi Chi, or a recruitment counselor for fall formal sorority recruitment, I have met some wonderful sorority women, helped potential new members find their home, and made some amazing memories. There were also a lot of things I've learned from being a Pi Chi as well.

The other Pi Chi's will become your new best friends and your family. Not being able to hang out or talk to your sorority sisters for a month is super hard but the Pi Chi's made it a lot easier. We did everything together from getting food to shopping to going out to freshman girl parties.

You will feel like a proud mom. This entire week, I felt like a mom because I was so excited for my Pi Chi babies to go through recruitment. Almost all my girls received a bid from a sorority and it was such a great feeling. After all the tears, freaking out, and being unsure, these girls found their homes and watching them run to their new chapter on bid day was so adorable.

Your advice skills have to be on point. Some of my Pi Chi babies were super torn when ranking each night, so I had to give them advice on what they should do. My favorite piece of advice was that you know what sorority you belong in when you get the "wedding dress feeling." This is like when you watch, "Say Yes to the Dress," and the bride realizes that is the dress that's perfect for her. The same thing applies to a sorority. You want to belong to the sorority that is a perfect fit for you. When my girls came back after their second pref night party, they almost all told me they had the wedding dress feeling for one of the two sororities.

Seeing your sorority sisters going out and being fun creates some serious FOMO. As much as I loved being a Pi Chi, seeing my sorority sisters do fun things together before recruitment was really hard to watch. I was super jealous, but then I remembered that I was having a blast in Pi Chi land. Yes, it sucked missing out on socials and the sisterhood video but I had my own fun with my new friends.

Running to your sisters again is amazing. This was my second time running home to my sisters and it was so much better running to them the second time. My sorority daughter tackled me to the ground and then my best friend jumped on top of us. Everyone I hugged was so happy I was back from Pi Chi land and I even started crying because I was so happy. It was even better that three of my Pi Chi babies ran home with me as well.

I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to be a Pi Chi this year. It was challenging at times but completely worth it in the end. To my Pi Chi pals, thank you for everything. I love you all so much. RUSH PI CHI!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

19 Lessons I'll Never Forget from Growing Up In a Small Town

There have been many lessons learned.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
