I think we can all agree that there are many phases to spring break. I think the three well known phases are before spring break, during spring break, and after spring break. I'm going to describe what I think goes on in each one of these phases, and I am pretty sure whoever is reading this relates or has related to this at some point.
At the same time as winter break ends, you are already excited and planning things for spring break and the warm weather. You are just dreading going back to school, and you do. While you're in class, all you can think about is what you're going to do over break. You start to think about how amazing it'll be to be able to eat a real home cooked meal, how good it'll feel to hang out with some old friends back at home, and how great it'll be to see your family. You start to plan what tropical and warm places you can go over break, such as Florida, Mexico, or the Bahamas. Then you think about how out of shape you are, and how you are not so beach ready. You contemplate on going to the gym, but eating tacos sound like a better and more fun option. Unless you are a broke af college student, then you might work over break and make some extra cash. Working isn't as fun as going somewhere for vacation, but hey, you get some extra cash. You might also have plans to do absolutely nothing and relax which isn't a bad thing. Whatever your plans are, your anticipation for spring break continues to grow each day that passes by.
Finally, spring break has come, and the first few days are great. You're either somewhere enjoying warm weather, working, or doing nothing. If you're somewhere warm, you appreciate the warm weather and enjoy wearing shorts, going to the beach, and other things. If you're working, you can't wait for break to be over, but also don't want break to be over, because you'll spend all the money you just made on Chinese food (I'm guilty). If you're doing nothing but watching Netflix, and relaxing you could see this as getting a bit repetitive and boring. You start to miss your college friends, and school in general, but also not really. Towards the end of break, you either are dreading school, excited to go back, or a little bit of both.
After spring break, you actually regret taking it for granted and wish you could have done more than just lay around, eat potato chips and bingewatch Netflix all day. If you worked all break, you probably made bank, so that's pretty cool. And if you were just a couch potato all break, you definitely are happy that you aren't stuck at home anymore, and that you are back at school seeing your college friends and living that college life. And once your feelings of regret are over, all you can think about is summer.
