Perspective: Transgender Ban

Everyone, this is discrimination.

Normally, I wouldn't write a story this important during the summer, mostly because I'd rather spend time talking about the good, but I feel that it's important to get a couple more opinions out there. I am unashamedly strong on my points, so if I offend you, sorry aboutthat.

On July 26th President Trump tweeted out that "the United States will not accept or allow Transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military". He then goes on to explain the reason as to why he made this decision, which is because "victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail".

Before I begin, I just want to state that I did not vote for President Trump nor do I agree with a lot of his opinions.

Let's break this down. We now know that Transgenders are now being excluded in any kind of participation in the U.S. Military. Whether they are in the military now or that they were looking forward to, they now cannot allow them in, at all.

They cannot participate or be apart of an establishment in America.

"Well Tiger when you put it like that it doesn't sound so good anymore". WELL SHOOT. This is starting to sound like they are being discriminated against. Everyone, this is discrimination. This is a unfair, unjust policy against a whole group of people. I'm not going to pretend like I know anything about the medical costs and disruption that could occur. But to call having Transgender People in the military a "social experiment" well then maybe we need to reevaluate our society.

What about women? What about Black People? What about all the other types of people we as a society decided to discriminate against? Clearly we got past all of that. How much longer are we going to continue to discriminate against people who are different than us?

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
