There was a time we used to be strangers, but when we found one common interest everything else fell into place. Gradually, as we hung out and found more things to talk about our friendship grew, too. I remember the days we would talk for hours on end, and the conversation ranged from serious topics to the most random things.
Over time, you became my best friend.
Life, like it usually does, perplexes us with choices. These decisions we make lead us to the door we open.
So where did we go wrong?
The truth is we didn’t. Somewhere along the way we lost contact, had an argument that tore us apart, schoolwork that swamped us, or our personal lives just got too busy.
Time gives us small chances of opportunity. We either take advantage or we don’t. It’s that simple.
I used to have your number memorized so I could call you if there was an emergency. You were my go-to whenever I let school and stress get to me. I would send you images of my dogs to lift you up when you were sick or feeling down. Now, I probably couldn’t tell you what your favorite song is or your dream vacation.
Despite this, you’re on my mind constantly. Just because we lost touch doesn’t mean I no longer wonder how you’re doing.
Yet I’m afraid of reaching out. You’ve changed and so have I, but I hope those changes were for the better. Why?
We don’t have to talk every day to be best friends, but just know you’re the Sully to my Mike Wazowski. Without you I wouldn’t be the person I am today. You were a part of my life; we were a team once.
But there is nothing more important than our friendship, and I will always cherish the time our door gave us.
