I know that you are probably like "EW, there are absolutely no benefits to learning over the summer." Trust me when I tell you there really are. I am a student who barely wants to learn during the fall/winter semesters, but I genuinely enjoyed this summer class. The class itself didn't take away from my pool time or even cut into any other part of my schedule. I went about my life while still doing a couple assignments here and there.
1. Your brain doesn't freeze up.
Usually during the summer in high school you become lazy brained because there are no stimulants. In college, you get the choice whether or not to take a class in the time you're supposed to be off.
2. It keeps you busy.
This doesn't seem like a big deal especially if you work, but it really is. Assuming that you don't have a job, like me, you are constantly attempting to find something to do with yourself. You are watching endless Netflix and napping constantly. With a summer class, you are too preoccupied to do so.
3. It takes off some of the pressure for the upcoming semesters.
For the high school students who stumble upon this article, yes, taking summer classes gets rid of some of the courses you in turn have to take during the fall and winter semesters and what is better than that?
4. The classes are usually easier and faster.
Summer courses are only 6 weeks long while regular classes are 15. The only downfall is that the classes are not waiting for you to catch up, they are fast paced and depending on the course may even be harder. (Mine wasn't, from personal experience.)
5. The professors are more lenient.
The leniency that the professors give you are an absolute blessing. Just assume that you forget to turn in something, they are not going to be assholes and be like "Well I don't know what to tell you." Granted, this isn't always true but again it is from personal experience.
6. If you aren't good at taking tests, good news, they are all online!
I am the type of student who does not do well on tests, so when it comes to online classes they are all open book! It is such a wonderful perk!
