The Perks Of Being Part Wolf

Keuka College students understand.

Though it’s a very important part of college, every college student knows that college isn’t solely about academics. For us college students, that dorm on campus, we spend close to every moment of the school year on campus. While college may be a great time for exploring the area and traveling to different places fun can actually take place on campus. In fact, here at Keuka it does. Having fun things to do is an excellent perk. However, it’s no surprise that Keuka’s perks don’t end there. Here are some perks that make the part wolf life at KC so spectacular.

1. It's a small campus

Ring! Ring! – or whatever your alarm sounds like. It’s Monday morning and you don’t want to get out of bed so you snooze the alarm. You wake up much later realizing you have about 7 minutes to get to class. Most people would start panicking but not us wolves. Okay maybe a slight panic but we know everything will be alright. One of the best things about living on our small campus is that it takes about 3-5 minutes to get anywhere. So chances are if you wake up with 7 minutes to spear you’ll “just make it to class” or be 1-2 minutes late. That’s better than being 5-10 minutes late which would probably happen if we lived on a bigger campus. So embrace our “smallness” it’s a gift!

2.Point Neamo

Though you may hear people say "Nemo" it’s not pronounced as the clown fish we fell in love with years ago. This is Keuka’s personal front to Keuka Lake. How many people do you know that go to a school that’s right on the lake?! Not only is it a beautiful view it’s a great place to go swimming, canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding, paddle boating and even Ice Fishing. Yes! Students have actually gone Ice Fishing. Why drive all the way to the beach when you can go swimming right after class without worrying about gas money?

3. The amazing events offered

There is always something going on at KC. From sports events, to musical guest performances, to school based musical concerts, to movie screenings to intramural sport tournaments to the clubs and organizations available. There's also the Price Is Right event (yes, just like the TV show) and the Spring Concert (last year we had T-pain and Luke Christopher come to our school!). Whether it's a special week such as Green and Gold weekend or Spring Weekend there's always tons of fun to be done! One of my favorite events to go to is..

4. Bingo!

That’s right Bingo. Bingo nights are when practically everyone is accounted for. It’s a time when we get to have fun while feeling the amazing rush of trying to win. The Prizes? Absolutely marvelous. They could rage from a basket of school supplies to a coffee maker to a gift card to an iPad mini! As another student recently said “Why go shopping on Amazon when you can just go to bingo?” I absolutely have to agree. You never know what the prizes are or if it’s your lucky night so it’s best to go every time and hope for the best!

5. Our small, tightly-knit community

Wolves are known for traveling in packs and for looking out for the members in their packs. At Keuka our community is one big family. You will literally know practically everyone on campus. You’ll have close relations with your professors and they will know you by your name/nickname. If you ever need help with anything there is always someone here who can help. We don’t judge where you come from, how you look, or who you are. We accept everyone as they are and treat everyone with kindness. Truly making Keuka your home away from home.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
