Summer jobs are always necessary, but not always fun. The only way to make the most of that awkward three month gap between leaving school and going back, is by finding a job that doesn't feel quite like a job. I am lucky enough to have a day camp near my house that makes this whole "summer job" thing a lot more convenient. Here are a few of the perks of being a summer day camp counselor.
Convenience
Waking up early isn't so bad when you get to leave work when it's still light outside and have the rest of the day to relax. Not only are the hours great, but having the rest of the day ahead of you makes it feel like the easiest job there is.
Great Coworkers
One of the coolest parts of working at a camp is getting to meet the other college kids working with you. It makes the day go by faster, and everything a lot more fun. And who knows, you might meet you're best friend through this.
Exercise
Summer camp is all about exercise these days. It's exhausting, but playing all of the sports with the kids is necessary to make their summer fun. The great part of this is that by the end of the camp day, you've already ran a good five miles and look at that, you've already worked out for the day!
Fun
Summer camp is just fun in itself. It's nice weather and fun games; there's nothing to complain about.
Pays Well
Who knew that playing games and looking after a group of kids would pay better than half of the other jobs in my city? After a long summer, you'll have enough money to buy all of the clothes you've ever dreamed of.
Memories
This could quite possibly be the cheesiest thing I have ever said, but there is nothing betting than seeing and hearing the kids having fun. I bet you've never heard 25 4 year olds try to learn the pledge of allegiance on a school bus back to the campsite after the field trip was cancelled. Every day is another chance to make them laugh at the silliest things and the dream is to have them remember at least the littlest part of camp!
Learning Funny Things
kids these days are so much funnier than I was when I was little. It's weird to think of how different my generation grew up compared to how kids are growing up now, but its also hilarious. Try asking a 10 year old about their favorite rap song; you won't regret it.
