When I do homework or study I have to listen to something. This may either be because I get too bored otherwise, but in a way it does help me keep focus. However, I have found that I need to be listening to certain music in order to be the most productive. Through trial and error I have created my perfect studying playlist that helps me get through the grueling hours of sitting in the library and reading way too much and stressing my hand with copious note taking.
Before I share my music recommendations, I just want to a note a few things. For me I find that listening to either songs that have no lyrics or songs that don't make me unfocused work best. Because of this I often gravitate towards either soundtracks or music that puts in a concentrated mood. Here are my picks:
1. Anything One Direction
I'm not even joking. I was never a big "directioner" but having a blast from the past while listening to their music brings me comfort. Because I'm already familiar with the music I find that it creates great background noise that helps me concentrate, and zone the world out. I really I have no particular album that I like so I pretty much just put them on shuffle and try to find my groove while studying.
2. "Handwritten" by Shawn Mendes
This album is great to listen to while studying because the music is so simple. It allows me to concentrate while listening to Shawn's amazing voice. His songs are very calming as well because they don't rush. Instead it brings me a fluid feeling of serenity as I review my notes.
3. "Jurassic World (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)"
This may seem strange but any soundtracks like this are great to study too because they have no words. Therefore you don't accidentally get distracted by the sing, but still have some background music. I chose this album in particular because my sister recommended it and if it works for both us, then it should become other people's study jam too.
4. "Let the Road" by Rixton
This is another boy band that I secretly love. Rixton is not only a good band to listen too while you study but, I just honestly love this album. I think the familiarity of it allows me to continually listen to it, and have it as the perfect background noise. Also the songs aren't too rushed, and should help create a more relaxed environment while you study.
5. "Know it All" by Alessia Cara
This breakout artist also has a very calming set of songs. Plus this album is one of those albums that you can listen to for the first time, and still be able to concentrate on your work. This is mostly because the songs aren't extremely fast paced and flow really nicely together. There is no abrupt ending or beginning and instead the connection of the music never snaps you out of focus.
And if all else fails, Spotify has great playlists.
