Election day is approaching faster than expected (holiday decorations are already on display in some stores), and many Americans are more sure about their Christmas lists than about who will get their vote on November 8th. This election is extremely unique in that both major party candidates are disliked by most voters. Though this may be the case, this does not mean you should avoid voting in this election. You should, however, be completely informed about all candidates, even those not representing the two major parties, and their stances on major issues. To make things easier for conflicted voters, I’ve comprised a list of people who should probably choose to vote for a candidate other than Donald Trump, for the sake of the process of elimination. I will also explicitly explain why these individuals should find a different nominee, being generally that Trump does not represent these individuals well and should not ever gain power over them as president.
1. The Disabled
Trump made fun of Serge Kovaleski and mocked his disability in front of an audience in an attempt to satirize his limited movements. He did this in response to his ego being slightly injured, a reoccurring problem throughout Trump's campaign.
2. Veterans
Trump claimed McCain wasn’t a war hero because he was captured and spent 5 years as a prisoner of war in Vietnam. He also avoided his Vietnam War draft, insulting all those who served our country.
3. Victims of sexual harassment
Trump was accused of rape and other sexual assault claims multiple times. He has never addressed any of these claims and it's often not talked about. Is that someone you feel safe trusting the future of America with?
4. African Americans
Donald has a history of issues with the Black community. Years ago, his company was sued for not renting to black people. He has made countless racist comments regarding African Americans, and he also refused to condemn KKK endorsements.
5. Asians
Trump is completely insensitive when it comes to people who are of different races, including Asian people. He has mocked their broken English in public, presenting them as unintelligent while he can only speak one language (and not well).
6. Mexicans
Trump is notorious for misrepresenting the Mexican community. He constantly stereotypes them and labels them as criminals and rapists. He even kicked Jorge Ramos out of a press conference, saying, “go to back to Univision”.
7. The LGBT Community
Although sometimes presenting mixed feelings about this group, Trump is mainly discriminatory towards them. He has stated he would likely appoint Supreme Court Justices that would try to overrule the legalization of same-sex marriage. He even said America is going to hell because the NFL defended gay football player, Michael Sam.
8. Muslims
Trump has stereotyped and degraded the Muslim community since the start of his campaign, branding them all as terrorists and dehumanizing them. He wants to stop all Muslims from entering the US, a dangerous proposition that he continually stands by.
9. Catholics
Trump doesn't appeal to a lot of Catholics for a variety of reasons, one major one being that he called Pope Francis “disgraceful” for suggesting Donald’s plan for a border wall was not Christian. Again, his ego took a small bruising and he aggressively fought back, offending all people of this religion who think the Pope deserves nothing but respect.
10. Women (or anyone who respects women)
Trump's sexist history goes back decades. Most recently, he has portrayed women as no more than sexual objects, suggesting their appearance is all that matters. He has often disrespected his own daughter, saying he would date her if he could (disgusting). He also used a sexist remark to insult his female opponent, the first female front runner in the history of the United States. He wants to set feminism back rather than progress the movement.
11. Anyone paying taxes
It's very likely that Trump hasn't been paying his fair share of taxes. He thinks this is "smart". Is this someone we want leading the nation, someone who finds a way to get out of following the rules?
12. Anyone living on planet Earth
Donald Trump legitimately thinks climate change is fake. This may be one of his most dangerous stances because it affects every human being on the planet. As president, he wouldn't take part other countries' efforts to take action against this worldwide serious issue.
Hopefully, if you were undecided in your choice for the November 8th ballot, I've helped in narrowing down your options a bit. Remember, you don't have to vote for Clinton to avoid voting Trump -- there are options, and this should be a well thought-out decision.
