Let's face it, everyone has social media, and everyone either has a smartphone or tablet, or some other form of technology they are attached to. I am guilty of this; my phone never leaves my side, and my friends and family are my witness. I am always scrolling through Twitter and Instagram, and tagging my friends in relatable videos on Facebook. I don't want to say that's the norm of this generation, but it actually is. If you look around at today's generation, all you see are people having their noses in their electronics -- out to dinner, at schools, the workplace (if you can get away with it), and many other places. This, in my opinion, is a problem.
In society today, at least everyone has something that connects them to social media, or other individuals. Now, some may have multiple electronics for work purposes, but I feel like everyone should take some time out of their day to disconnect from their devices and enjoy life around them. Keeping your face in your phone makes you miss whats happening right is right in front of you. I've gone out to dinner and seen families with each and every single person at the table have their phones out. How can you have a real conversation with someone when you are more focused on who posted what on Facebook, or work related material?
Having disconnected from my phone for a period of time during the day, I can actually say its very beneficial. You don't feel like you have to keep refreshing every news feed, or worry about the boy who won't text you back. I'm able to enjoy the day, whether it be at the barn, or at home with family. Technology and social media today has taken control of this generation, in my opinion. When you see mothers having to give their child the iPad with cartoons or the iPhone for games, it's kind of sad. Do we really need to fall back on technology to make kids happy? I guess so. When I was growing up, playing outside was everyone's favorite thing to do. Riding bikes, playing basketball, we were outside until our parents had to drag us inside. Now, all you see are kids glued to game consoles or their phones. Seeing this has made me want to make time during the day to turn my phone off and just relax.
Owning a phone, or having social media accounts may mean different things to different people. But, going away from the social media world and living life, isn't so bad. I promise. The tweets and snaps will be there when you get back.
