Happiness is a major key to living a great life. Everyone deserves to be happy, and you should not let other people determine how happy you are. Do not let anyone bring you down. Have confidence in yourself and be happy with the life you live. Here are five reasons why you should not let people determine your happiness.

1. You are strong on your own.

You are capable of anything that you set your mind to. You should not have to rely on other people to help you accomplish your goals, because people will let you down the majority of the time. Do what you love to do and what makes you happy. Discover who you are on your own. Be the person you want to be and do not let anyone get in your way of becoming the person you want to be. You are perfectly capable of becoming a strong, successful, independent person.

2. Do not let other people make you doubt your worth.

There are people in this world who will do everything in their power to try to bring you down to try to lift themselves up. There will be people who want to be better than you, who try to always one up you. Do not think twice about these people because they are only insecure about themselves. Be confident in yourself and do not worry about anyone else. The less you care about what others think of you, the better off you will be.

3. Surround yourself with genuine people who love you.

The people that matter most to you in life and love you will always be the ones to encourage you and support you in everything that you do. Your family and close friends will always be the ones to lift you up and encourage you and be proud of your successes. Surround yourself with the people who encourage you and get rid of the toxic people that try to bring you down.

4. Love yourself first.

Self-love is a major key to happiness. Love who you are mentally, physically and emotionally. Always be yourself and do not let anyone try to change you. If people do not like who you truly are, then they are undeserving of being in your life. Have confidence in yourself and love the person that you are. Nobody can take that away from you. If you give off confidence, you will live a happy life and bring happiness to others.

5. Find who you are and be the person you want to be.

Take the time to be on your own, discover your independence, and through that, you will discover the person you are and who you want to become. You will be able to further experiment your likes and dislikes. Do not let anyone tell you who you should be, what you should do or even wear. Do what you want and feel what is right for you and your life.

There are so many reasons to love the life you live and to simply be happy. Enjoy what you have in life and do not take anything for granted. Do not let others determine your happiness, because you are strong on your own and so deserving of so much happiness in life.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
