In this generation we see a lot of negative things on social media about police officers killing innocent people, young people going to jail, and kids fighting each other along with countless other things. This article is about the positive things that people have been doing for others and their community.
1. Blare Gooch
Blare is a 13 year old from Grand Rapid, MI. In 2001 after the devastating earthquake in Haiti, Blare remembered how his teddy bear always comforted him. With everyone from his school and local community chipping in Blares Bears For Haiti gave 25,000 teddy bears to the island nation and about 22,000 more to nonprofits.
2. Ashley Gragg
Ashley is a 20 year old from Pine Bluff, Ar. She currently is studying history at Xavier University of Louisiana. Gragg is an active member of the Black Lives Matter movement where she went to Baltimore to protest after the death of Freddie Gray. She and her best friend also created a scholarship to help students from her Alma mater attend college. She also holds a workshop every spring called ''Secrets To a Full Ride to College'' for local students where she teach students how to attend college for free.
3. Opal Tometi, Alicia Garza, and Patrisse Cullors
These three ladies are the founders of the Black Lives Matter Movement. The movement started as a call for action after the death of 17 year old Trayvon Martin. The BLM movement is continuously growing as more and more innocent blacks are being gunned down and murdered because of the color of their skin, and where they are from. It is an affirmation of Black folks’ contributions to this society, our humanity, and our resilience in the face of deadly oppression.'' - Alicia Garza4. Beyonce Knowles-Carter
In 2005 after hurricane Katrina, Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland started the Survivor Foundation to provide transitional housing for victims in the Houston area.In April 2011, Beyoncé teamed up with First Lady Michelle Obama and the National Association of Broadcasters Education Foundation, to help boost the latter's campaign against childhood obesity by remixing her single "Get Me Bodied." She also started the BeyGood charity were 2,000 students in the U.S. will receive new school supplies.She is providing backpacks stuffed with pencils, notebooks, folders and more back-to-school supplies for students who attend underfunded schools. Just to name a couple I could go all day about Queen Bey.
5. Cornell Haynes (Nelly)
Nelly has been sending two students to college for free for the past 10 years. After the death of Mike Brown in Ferguson he announced the Mike Brown scholarship. After his sister was diagnosed with leukemia they started a campaign together called the "Jes Us 4 Jackie campaign." The campaign focuses on the education of african americans and other minorities about the importance of bone marrow transplant and the need for more donors.
