My name is Shannon, my friends call me Shan. I'm a sophomore Media Communications major and Spanish minor at Stonehill College. And this is my first ever Odyssey publishing. Now WHAT exactly should I write this on? Well, to start, let me say that I don't actually consider myself a writer. And if you asked me what my biggest dream is, I would tell you it's that I want to make movies. This is entirely true, since I actually find it very difficult to put my thoughts into words, I have always been drawn to photography & cinematography. Would you ever casually ask me this question ever in your life? Probably not. But I'm pretending you did anyway so that I could introduce myself, and tell you that Patriot's Day is probably the most stunning film I have ever seen.
"I don't know how much movies should entertain. To me, I'm always interested in movies that scar. The thing I love about Jaws is the fact that I've never gone swimming in the ocean again". David Fincher said this. I like to think about a lot when I see a really good film. With Patriot's Day, I can proudly say that I will never take for granted the city of Boston. And the words "Boston Strong", will have a meaning with me forever. Peter Berg is a brilliant man. I am in awe at how the film he has made captures such an unbelievable feeling. It is filled entirely with sorrowful, enraged, heartbroken, mournful, appreciative, dignified, and glorious feeling, all wrapped up in to two unbelievably distinguishable words: "Boston Strong".
"Good vs. Evil, Love vs. Hate." Patriot's Day is a movie about these words. The intense hate from the terrorists, and the ultimate and uttermost love from the first responders, Boston and Watertown police forces, FBI, families of the victims, and every other Boston resident and person who delivered a prayer worldwide. There was an intense act of hate, and "there's only one weapon you have to fight back with...that's love." As Officer Tommy Saunders so wonderfully said this and pointed out in the film, love is the drive that deserves to win every time. In the words of David Ortiz, Big Papi himself, "this is our f*cking city".
This is a movie that makes me want to make movies. It is the source of pure inspiration for not only art, but also pure love.
So, what are you waiting for?! Go watch it!
