The first thing that attracted me to watching �"The Path" was Aaron Paul. I was familiar with his work on �"Breaking Bad" and "Need for Speed", and I knew that he is a talented and respectable actor. The trailers failed to really tell audiences what the premise is, but succeeded in catching our's attention. On March 30, 2016 I watched the first episode and was blown away. The acting, directing, lighting and cinematography, in general, was amazing, but it was the unique and refreshing storytelling that truly left me wanting more.
"The Path" is a story about Eddie Lane (Aaron Paul) who is lives in a secluded area with the Meyerist. Meyerism is a movement that follows the "Light" in pursuit of spiritual and physical assurance. Eddie is a sort of important figure in the movement, but he is having strong doubts about the religion he and his family have immersed themselves in. The show is refreshing because it is tackling an important issue in life: religion.
I personally do not struggle with my faith, but many people in life do. A lot of times they have questions that are usually shallowly answered. That is exactly what is happening in "The Path." Eddie has questions, but no one can answer them.
"The Path" highlights different people who are in different phases in their faith. You have devout followers, corrupt leaders, people who use faith as an excuse for something else and people who want to believe but cannot. There is a character for everyone to relate to and characters that reveal our darkest desires. I found it refreshing that the show addresses the battle of family and religion. It shows how people question whether their religion comes before their love ones. I personally do not agree with most of the show, but it is still profound in watching it. It talks about the things we as a society do not want to talk about. I love the show because it neither supports or discredits faith. It simply shows different sides.
If you're interested in the show, it is now streaming on Hulu and new episodes come out every Wednesday. I promise you that this show will really make you think about yourself and even how you believe in what you believe in. I think this show is what television needs.
