My Passion For Food

Some girls have a passion for fashion, but I have a passion for food.

What is it that you can't live without, people fight over it, fight for it but you won't catch them fighting with it? Not having enough of it will kill you but too much of it will do the same. Have you figured it out yet? Well, I'll just tell you. It's FOOD!

We eat to survive, but I survive to eat. I have a deep and serious passion for food. Like most people, I love to eat but more importantly, I love to cook, talk about, look at and study food. I've recently discovered this new hobby of mine and if no one minds, I would like to talk about my interest. Initially, I started by just taking pictures of the great meals I was eating but recently Facebook has this new page called Tasty that has turned my world upside down. This page shows short clips of amazing yet creative food recipes. One of my favorites is the "Bubbly Popsicles." This is a mix of diced strawberries, pineapples, ginger ale and a number of other fruity drinks frozen in large shot glasses as popsicles only to be placed in a drinking jar with champagne. Can you say creative and easy to make? It's little cocktails and snacks like this that can light up someone's day.

Another food funny I enjoy is the show "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives." Host Guy Fieri travels around the country to find some of the most interesting and history-rich restaurants America has to offer. From your local mom and pop pizza parlor to old southern cafes he has just about seen it all. Here are some great food channels, shows and websites to visit to get your creative food juices flowing (no pun intended).

1. Tasty

2. Diners, Drive-ins and Dives

3. Man v. Food

4. Food Network

5. Huang's World

6. Pinterest (just type the word "food" in the search bar and you are set)

7. The Best Thing I Ever Ate

8. The Layover with Anthony Bourdain

9. Andrew Zimmern's Bizarre World

10. Food and Wine

Food tends to have more of an impact than people think. When chiefs and kings made treaties and deals, they always did so over food. Sharing what sustains humans, no matter what race or nationality, seems to bring peace along with a sense of familiarity. We could easily fight but in the midst of an abundance of food that fighting wouldn't be so easy. Although food may not be a passion for everyone it surely does have some sort of significance in everyone's lives. Take the time this summer to cook up something new, try something new or make up your very own recipe. Contribute to this world of food. Don't just be a consumer but give back and create something tasty...so I can eat that too.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
