Freshman year to Senior year, it's always exciting when your parents decide to take a trip out to visit you in college (especially if you're from out of state). Recently, I was lucky enough to be graced by the presence of my dear mother for the weekend and let me tell you, it was quite the trip. Here is a summary of the journey through the emotional stages of a visit from your parents.
Planning the trip
The excitement is real. They're coming. The calendar is clear and the trip is booked.
Cleaning the apartment
You have a slight panic attack when you realize you haven't cleaned since the beginning of time. You and your roommates mad dash the apartment and do a clean sweep of the place.
Inviting your friends along
Whether it's with your friends and their parents or you just invite your friends along to lunch, mixing home life and school life is the entertainment of the trip. There's nothing quite like laughing over dinner with the women who raised you as they tell embarrassing stories.
Shopping
You haven't been in literally forever and you are running low on the dough (hehe get it?). The parentals take you to the store to stock up on essentials. Hold on, Ramen, I've got some substantial food to hold me over for a while, thank you. Bring on the snacks.
Cooking
Obviously you beg your mom to make you your favorite meal and you freeze it to eat throughout the rest of the semester.
Arguing
You're with each other non stop for the weekend so you're bound to argue a little bit. Do I ditch and veg out in my apartment for a couple of hours? Make plans to go out that night? It doesn't take long to work your way over the bump in the road when you realize the weekend is too short.
Saying goodbye
Distance has made your relationship stronger with your parents and you want to beg them to stay. Saying goodbye only gets harder as you get older.
