1. I'll love them no matter what
Come hell or high water, I'll be there. Whether they throw a baseball through a window, crash the family car, or stumble in their everyday lives, I'll be there. Not saying there won't be consequences, because most certainly there will be, but I'll love them the same; I'll love them anyway. I want them to come to me through the ups and downs, knowing that nothing can ever change my love for them.
2. They can't have anything just because they say please.
They need to learn how to earn things, to work for a goal, and know what good work ethic looks like instead of expecting to have everything handed to them.
3. The phrase "Boys Will Be Boys" is not an excuse.
It does not give them the right to run around anywhere, getting dirty, and destroying everything in sight. They need to be respectful of their surroundings and of the rules that have been set. There is a time and a place for being rambunctious, and they need to know when and where is appropriate.
4. They always need to be gentlemen.
Having manners is just the start. They need to hold open doors, pull out chairs, shake hands with respect, tip well, always express their gratitude, and show the same amount of respect for a janitor as they would the President.
5. They've made me a better person.
They've taught me the importance of patience, unconditional love, discipline, and priorities. Having them when I did changed my life in the best way possible—I've restored relationships with some of my family members, found amazing life-long friends, and my character has improved greatly. I've never been more blessed than I am by them.
I know it was short and sweet but I hope you got to see a little window into my life and my heart for my kids! Thanks so much for reading, I sooo appreciate you!
p.s. shoutout to my amazing husband for raising these boys aside me.
