There's so much to (not) do!

As we packed our cars with all of our belongings and began to head back home for a break from the craziness of college life, we all had a picture of what our summers would be like. But, like me, the reality of your summer might be differing slightly from what you envisioned, such as:

1. Your social life

"I'll probably never be home, there's so much catching up to do!" ... on Netflix, not with my friends.

Expectation

Reality

2. Making lots of money at your summer job

"This summer I'll save all my money." Or not.

Expectation

Reality

3. Working out

"I'm going to go to the gym, like, every day." ... starting tomorrow.

Expectation

Reality

4. Your love life

"Maybe I'm going to reconnect with that guy who sat four seats in front of me in English from seventh grade!" Or maybe I'll set a new record for 'longest amount of continuous Netflix watching' instead.

Expectation

Reality

5. Eating better

"This summer I'm totally going to stop eating carbs." Yeah... okay.

Expectation

Reality

6. Getting incredibly tan

"I'm going to go to the beach all the time!" ... in my dreams.

Expectation

Reality

7. Taking an unforgettable trip

"Let's go to Miami! Or the Bahamas!" Or Target!

Expectation

Reality

8. Getting along with your family

"I'm so much more mature, we'll definitely get along." Until they say I have a curfew.

Expectation

Reality

9. Picking up a new hobby

"Maybe I'll start yoga." Or maybe I'll just watch the entire series of Friends, again.

Expectation

Reality

10. Reinventing your wardrobe

"I'm going out with the old and in with the new!" Which is difficult to do with the lack of money from your summer job.

Expectation

Reality

On the bright side, there's always next year.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
