Oversized tee shirt, running shorts, sneakers, and a bun. This has become the lifestyle I'm living and I know I am not the only college girl who feels this way. Somehow, since attending college, I have become basic.
Attending college has made me extremely lazy by means of clothes. I've gone from being recognized on my high school's fashion page in the yearbook to now blending in with everyone else on my campus.
I wear my big T-shirts in a variety of combinations. Big shirt and running shorts, big shirt and running tights, big shirt and jeans, big shirt and straight leg pants. So, to an extent, maybe I'm not so basic. Though, during the summer and beginning of fall semester, trust and believe you will forever catch me in a large shirt and shorts.
In high school, I had time to stand around, socialize, strut down the halls. Every day was a chance to be noticed by a cute guy or just admired from a distance from what I had on. I'd be at school for at least eight hours a day, so I had to look my best.
At 16 years old I got my first job as a YMCA summer day camp counselor. I was able to buy the clothes I saw girls show off on YouTube and even just pieces of clothing that interested me.
T.U.K Creepers were one of my first statement shoe purchases. This was an all-black suede shoe with a two-inch platform.
Coming into college, I thought I would have the same energy. I learned fast that nobody cares what you wear! Unless you go to the Fashion Institute, no one cares why you're not dressed up in class.
The beginning of the fall semester is always hot and humid; you start sweating as soon as you step foot out of your dorm. So, no one is interested in wearing anything that isn't free breezy and comfortable. For some that's dresses, but for me, that's shorts and a tee.
Aside from the weather, you are walking at least a mile a day to and from class. If you live off campus, you go to class then go home. If you live on campus, you go to class, then take the shuttle to your dorm just to hop in the bed for your post-class nap. It's a waste of an outfit (unless you post on Instagram of course.)
What's the point of dressing up for you to go to two or three classes each day? I'd be dressing up just to sit at a desk for 50 minutes, then head back to my room or sit in the library. I can't sit in a library and bring my knees to my chest on the chair in a pair of stiff jeans or dress.
The thing I look for most when choosing my outfit depends mostly on my mood and also what classes I have for the day. Is it class where I'm in a small group and we have to discuss? Maybe then I'll wear jeans and a properly fitted shirt. As for a lecture class, I'll go for a more comfortable outfit such as a large hoodie and shorts.
People come to class in pajamas judgment-free, so I am going to class in my Nike running shorts until I get goosebumps on my legs because of the weather change.
