7 Reasons Why Valentine's Day is an Overrated Holiday

You're the problem if you think this day is the only time someone should treat you well.

I am here to tell you some reasons why I believe Valentine's Day is an overrated "holiday". Yes, I am a girl and I believe in all of this. There is no reason that only once a year, someone is supposed to think about you. They should be thinking about you all the time, all year long. I want to be important all the time, not just for one day.

1. Flowers

More importantly red roses. You should be brought flowers because someone thought about you on a Tuesday, not because its Valentine's Day and it is expected.

2. Candy and Chocolate

Besides myself not being able to eat it, you can get this kind of stuff all year long. Just because it is in the shape of a heart does not mean it is romantic.

3. Poetry

I'm sorry, but no one is into this shit. Unless it is funny or stupid like those Valentine's meme cards, I don't want to hear it.

4. The colors

Red and pink should not have this stigma of Valentines attached to it, they're just colors.

5. Love and Romance

Unfortunately, not all love works out the way we want it to. Your partner should love you regardless of the day and treat you with respect all the time.

6. Single Girls

Now listen, I have been in your spot before but Jesus, please shut up. You do not need a man to keep you happy or to buy you things. And by the way, all the candy goes on sale the next day so I don't know why you are complaining.

7. Proposals

Do you really want the anniversary of your proposal to be on a holiday? Because, that definitely doesn't take anything away from the meaning of the day. It isn't romantic and its kind of stupid.

To end this off, yes, Valentine's Day might be a day that your partner splurges on you, but I would rather have someone surprise me another day instead of basically being forced to buy me something romantic, something that is going to die within 2 weeks or something that will go bad if you don't eat it.

You may read this and think that I am ungrateful, but like I said, you should be with someone who respects you, loves you and cares for you all days of the year, not just for one. If you can't get behind that then you need to reevaluate yourself and your standards. It is your choice whether you want to be in that type of relationship, but if you do not respect yourself, then who will?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
