It's that time of the year again...
People are going to make goals, start relationships, and even begin challenges they didn't think they could've done last year. Every time I go to the gym around this time of year it's almost impossible to get a treadmill, bike or even into a yoga class. There are times i've walked out wondering "WHERE WERE ALL OF YOU YESTERDAY??" Now, don't get me wrong, I love the idea of a fresh year, fresh semester, fresh beginning of everything just about. There is something reassuring about the beginning, and I think everyone needs a fresh beginning.
2017 is going to be new beginning for sure. Not only are there going to be billions of new years resolutions, but there is going to be a new president. I promise I am not going to try and convince you to buy a trump train ticket for January 20, but I am asking that you be there to support it leaving for its journey ahead. The election happened, and the results are in, but this new year brings forth challenges and opportunities. What if out of the most controversial election and presidency in history, America chooses to grow stronger together? We could use this election choice to fuel a civil war or we could use it to fuel a collected community. This is a beginning, and one that we should take by the reins and ride towards victory.
Not only should this new year be a victory for America, but for you too. As someone who has had her fair share of obstacles and challenges, this new year is EXCITING. My goal this next year is to remain focused on whatever I am doing and live in the moment. It sounds cliché, but it was one of my biggest weaknesses this year. I spent so much looking towards the future (which is not always a bad thing) that I didn't live in the moment as much. Much of my senior year was spent looking forward to the lasts, and not taking in the 2nd to lasts. I challenge you to not only be open minded this year but pick something in your life that you want to change this year. Give yourself a goal every month that helps you keep track of your challenge. This challenge should be reassuring and motivational for the year to come.
2017, I think it's safe to say there are many emotions over what you might bring, scared, nervous, anxious, excited, doubtful, etc. There is one thing you bring that motivates us and that's the promise of a new year. Cheers to 2017 and whatever it may bring. Cheers to America, and the promise of a fresh future we have ahead. Cheers to Baylor and the major transitions that will be occurring over the next year. Cheers to me and goals I've set for myself. Above all, Cheers to the Great I Am who sits on His throne and remains King over all throughout this new year. May 2017 bring Peace, Love, Joy, and Faithfulness to all.
