I have often thought how relieving it would be if all the people who hate- those preferring war, killing, rape and torture over peaceful lives with equal opportunities for all- could live together in one part of the world and the rest of us could live together far, far away from them.
The front page article of The New York Times on February 23, 2017 informed us that an international team of astronomers have discovered 7 Earth-sized planets orbiting a dwarf star named Trappist-1 and they all have potential for harboring life. While 40 light years might seem like a long trip, can you imagine truly starting over? We could leave behind the political squalor and thoughtless agendas that seem increasingly motivated by revenge rather than reason.
A voluntary surrender: We will miss you dear Earth, but we know you understand. If all goes well, we’ll be back when they are gone. It could take decades or centuries, but there is a possibility that with the increased concentration of violent, environmentally and socially obtuse personalities, they will self-destruct at a rapid rate.
Life on our new planets could start out simply, and then stay that way. Bring your own fruit and vegetable seeds, clothes for all weather, and stories to share, either in book form or by word of mouth. By now we have learned the heart break and destruction caused by large industry and even larger scale governments run by a privileged few who are grotesquely inept at representing the true feelings of those they “serve.”
This may sound dangerously close to Johnny Cash lyrics, but in attempts to eliminate future violence on our new planets, we ask that you leave your guns at home! Everyone is welcome on this journey, but imposters of the good-hearted beware: a carefully selected security force of poets, artists and street musicians will take a good long look into your eyes before allowing you to board the ship. Due to their abilities to really get people, we are confident they will see through any attempts to corrupt our prospects of a much better world.
