Valentine's day is coming up and whether you’re single as a pringle, in a relationship or completely complicated. It’s important to keep in mind that there are ways we and our loved ones give and receive love in our life. Using people’s love languages is the easiest way to show them how much you care. It’ll mean so much more when someone receives love the best way they know how. People can show and receive love in different ways but it’s better to adapt and understand when someone is trying to convey love in a way that you don’t receive love.
1. Words of affirmation
Letting someone know how much you care, can be as simple as complimenting them and telling them you love them more often than not. Telling them how much you value and appreciate them is very important. That shows them that you really notice them and want them to know it.
2. Quality time![]()
Even if it’s just hanging out in the same room together. Time spent together is the most loving thing you can do with them. A heart to heart at 2am, deciding to get a treat together, or even just going grocery shopping together. Setting aside the time and following through, is the important part. Use that time to get to know people on a deeper level or just get comfortable alone together.
3. Receiving gifts
These gifts are not chocolates and teddy bears. These are the kinds of gifts that shows them that you took time to find the right gift. You listened to them and knew what they would like. This gift is well thought out and meaningful. Even if it’s a reference to the first time you met or an inside joke. It’s something that you know they will love and cherish always.
4. Acts of service![]()
This doesn’t mean, you did the dishes because they asked you to. A better term is “Random acts of kindness” because that’s what it is. You chose to do something because you knew that they would appreciate it, even if it’s something you hate doing. It shows that you’re willing to do anything for them. Especially if they were putting it off and dreading doing it.
5. Physical touch
It’s not as simple as it sounds. Don’t just touch them constantly (or do, depending on the person). It just has to be loving, gentle and meaningful. Showing that you are physically attentive, making them feel heard and loved.
Whatever your love language, you’ll probably hit all of these at least once on Valentine’s day. Happy Valentine’s day everyone, I hope you feel loved this year. Whether your sibling, parent, friend, or significant other. Everyone has their own love language.
