The 89th Academy Awards is this Sunday night! From the red carpet to the celebrity filled stage, it is a night full of Hollywood glamour. Watching the award show has always been a tradition for me and my family. Every year my family and I bet 20 dollars to see who will guess the most categories right. It has been a few years since I've won, but I am determined to make it happen this year! These are my predictions for who will win the Oscars in 2017. Starting with...

1. Best Picture.

"La La Land." "La La Land" will steal the show and the awards this year! I see it being the leading film in most categories.

2. Actor in a Leading Role.

Casey Affleck, "Manchester by the Sea." Not only moving and heartbreaking, Affleck's performance is sure to win audience's hearts.

3. Actress in a Leading Role.

Emma Stone, "La La Land." Emma's acting is exceptional and she has already won a Golden Globe for this role!

4. Actor in a Supporting Role.

Jeff Bridges, "Hell or High Water." Multiple critics have already claimed Bridges' acting is a memorable masterpiece!

5. Actress in a Supporting Role.

Viola Davis, "Fences." We've seen Davis perform multiple roles that strike up a conversation, but none is more powerful than her role as Rose Maxson.

6. Animated Feature Film.

"Moana." No explanation needed. It's a new Disney favorite.

7. Cinematography.

"Arrival." This sci-fi movie was visually spectacular and it significantly enhanced the movie. "Arrival" is very deserving of this award.

8. Costume Design.

"Jackie." Historic outfit details were spot-on and aesthetically pleasing!

9. Directing.

Barry Jenkins, "Moonlight."

10. Documentary (Feature).

"I Am Not Your Negro." An incredible look at the civil rights era that is not only thought-provoking but emotionally riveting.

11. Documentary (Short Subject).

"4.1 Miles." An appropriate film on the recent refugee crisis. This documentary is emotional and brings up important questions for America.

12. Film Editing.

"La La Land." Once again, it is a spectacular movie.

13. Foreign Language Film.

"The Salesman." An Iranian drama that has the backing of famous director Asghar Farhadi is sure to win the academy's vote.

14. Makeup and Hairstyling.

"Star Trek and Beyond." What else is there to say? Seeing the film is enough argument.

15. Music (Original Score).

"La La Land." What musical doesn't win best original score?

16. Music (Original Song).

"La La Land," "City of Stars." It will be stuck in your head all day!

17. Production Design.

"Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them." 1920s New York does not compare to the set of "Fantastic Beasts."

18. Short Film (Animated).

"Piper." Disney's cute short film will have you smiling ear to ear.

19. Short Film (Live Action).

"Silent Nights." A moving love story between a young Danish woman and an undocumented immigrant from Ghana.

20. Sound Mixing.

"Arrival." Some have called this sci-fi "poetic," and I would say the film's sound mixing fits that description.

21. Sound Editing.

"La La Land." Who would have guessed?

22. Visual Effects.

"The Jungle Book." Visual effects were beautiful and detailed.

23. Writing (Adapted Screenplay).

"Fences." Late writer August Wilson receives a nod for his play adaptation. It was his dream that his writings would be turned into a film someday.

24. Writing (Original Screenplay).

"Hell or High Water." This crime thriller wouldn't have been as successful without the writing talents of Taylor Sheridan.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
