I'm a self-proclaimed perfectionist and total neat freak, just ask my roommates. I don't just clean and organize to ease stress (a total added bonus), but I find these activities necessary for keeping my sanity.
In addition to being a compulsive organizer, I'm an an avid film watcher. My sister introduced me to Wes Anderson films early on in life, and I've been a super fan ever since. I think my constant desire for organization and neatness is what really attracted me to his films. For those who aren't familiar with Wes Anderson, his films are extremely unique in style; his clean cut sets, symmetrical images, and limited color pallets are completely distinct and unique to his style.
In the spirit of mid-semester funk, I compiled a list of study space organization tips with some Wes Anderson visual aid and eye candy.
1. Keep Superfluous Paperwork in a Folder
There's really nothing I hate more than having random papers circulating throughout my room. In order to stay organized and maintain my sanity, I have a specific folder that carries all the paperwork I need for the semester This way, I always know where to find my papers and I don't get overwhelmed by having them float about my room (no brainer, right?).
2. Make Lists
I swear by list making. At any given time I have at least three post it notes stuck to my wall. Writing lists is an awesome way to keep track of stuff you need to do and might often forget (i.e. to do lists, shopping list, upcoming assignments).
3. Fold Your Clothes
At risk of sounding like your mom, you should seriously consider folding your clothes. Not only does folding clothes reduce clutter, but it gives you time to disconnect and clear your head. This might be way too much for normal folk, but I like to color coordinate my closet and drawers so I always know where to look if I'm in a hurry.
4. Have a Spot for "Lost Things"
Everything in my room has a place, but as I've mentioned I'm a monster when it comes to organizing. A good tip would be to create a spot to keep objects you often lose (chapstick, headphones, and flash drives to name a few). Here's hoping this will limit how many chapsticks you find yourself purchasing in one winter.
5. Make Your Bed
I understand that this isn't ideal for everyone and I really sound like a parent for even suggesting this. Honestly though, making my bed really helps me feel like I've got my life together. Also, I really prefer the look of a made bed over my disheveled mess of sheets. (Thanks dad for forcing me to make my bed everyday)
6. Use a Color Palette of Your Favorite Colors
I feel like things look calm and structured when they follow a color scheme. Also, who doesn't want their room to be covered wall to wall in their favorite colors?
