I read or watch the news and I think: What can I do to help? I believe many of us want to make this world better. We do our part; we work hard; we approve our courses; we try to be a good friend, son, daughter, mother, father, sister, brother, grandchildren, girlfriend or boyfriend. But, sometimes we feel it is not enough; there are too many people needing us.

In my case, I never know how to start. Being a volunteer is a good option; however, timing is the big problem (at least in my case). The other option is to donate some money. It is not easy to choose the organization which will receive our money. We don't want to help an organization that is not using their resources properly instead of helping an organization that really needs the money.

I have some options for you. You can research them. I chose these organizations because I believe in them and I give them my money. Yes, most of them are out of the US because our dollar can do more there.

1. "Feeding America."

Facebook: Feeding America

In the US, over 41 million Americans are insecure about food. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) tells us that "Food security means access by all people at all times to enough food for an active, healthy life." Over 12% of Americans are in this range. "Feeding America" is an organization that works to decrease this number. You can help them as a volunteer and donate. Its website is www.feedingamerica.org.

2. "Universidad Catolica Andrés Bello."

Facebook: UCAB

If you like to read the news, more than once you should have read about Venezuela's crisis. This country which has a huge oil reserve is starving. Venezuelans are escaping as refugees to many countries because they do not have food, medicines or security. In the middle of this tragedy, there are young people who want to stay in their country and study.

"Universidad Católica Andrés Bello" is one of the most important universities in Venezuela and Latin America. Sixty-five years making new professionals is their best endorsement (Many of my family members are graduated from this university; I am speaking in the first person). Several of their students cannot afford their tuition. You can help them. Only $100 is enough to pay the full semester to one student. We pay more for each book. For more information, these are the websites: https://www.ucab.edu.ve/ and https://donations.abcufoundation.org/Scholarship-Fund-_p_17.html

3. "UN Women" and "Woman's Trust."

Facebook: UN Women

In some countries, being a woman is not easy. The gap between men and women is huge. Cultural issues make women stay in dangerous situations. Many women in the world do not have access to education. They were forced to get married or they suffer sexual abuse and other types of violence. They are in a hole, and these women do not have the resources to get out of it.

"UN Women" is the United Nations entity dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women. They have an important number of programs created to help women around the world; website: http://www.unwomen.org/.

"Women's Trust" is another organization in charge to help women, but in this case is in Ghana. I like this organization because they empower Ghana woman to access to education and to become entrepreneurs. The website is http://womenstrust.org/.

There are thousands of organizations you can check and choose the way you want to collaborate. If you don't know how to start, I have one more piece of advice: check the last winners of Peace Nobel Prize.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
