Welcome to OPOW, a playlist for making everyday your Birthday! Some songs will be old. Some songs will be new. Overall, they will be full great music. Instead of five songs, this playlist will have seven songs! Here are your seven songs in this week’s playlist:

Michael Jackson “Smooth Criminal”

The King Of Pop himself. Michael Jackson will moonwalk with one of his hit songs from 1987’s “Bad”, “Smooth Criminal.” “Smooth Criminal” is a story-like song about a girl named Annie who is chased and killed by a Smooth Criminal. No one knows if Annie is really okay in the song. However, “Smooth Criminal” provides a dramatic but energetic production to make Jackson’s song into an awesome mystery. Plus, anti-gravity lean. Enough said.

Wonder Girls “Candle (ft. Paloalto)”

From their most successful 2015 album “Reboot,” Wonder Girls will have your heart racing with their song “Candle.” “Candle” is about anticipating sexual pleasure from the lover. Along with a rap feature from Paolato, its 80s synths and upbeat sounds become attracting and wanting to listen on repeat. Wonder Girls will light up your weekend with “Candle.”

U-Kiss “Standing Still”

From 80s throwback to experimenting with house music, Korean boy group U-Kiss comes to the music industry strong with “Standing Still.” Released from their album “Collage,” “Standing Still” expresses a partner’s heartbreak over a lover who treated them badly. “Standing Still” experiments with house music and still makes it wondrous to listen to.

Kahi “It’s Me”

From her 2013 album of the same time, Korean singer Kahi sings “It’s Me.” This Euro-synth song is about having confidence and not afraid to find love. “It’s Me” sets a mature sound in the K-Pop genre. This song lets anyone who listens feel confident and wanting to strut in the streets.

Mary J. Blige “Just Fine”

From her 2004 album “Growing Pains,” Queen of Hip-Hop and R&B Mary J. Blige gives her listeners confidence with “Just Fine.” This uplifting song is about being comfortable with yourself and letting yourself know that everything will be just fine. This is an anthem for anyone who needs a self-esteem boost and reminds them that it will alright.

Tori Kelly “Confetti”

Another self-empowerment song! From her 2013 EP “Handmade Songs By Tori Kelly,” Tori Kelly croons to the Birthday folks with “Confetti.” While the song is not about celebrating a holiday or one’s literal Birthday, “Confetti” is about finding yourself and finding your passion through Kelly’s narratives. Like Mary J. Blige, this mellow track embraces individuality and finding yourself through the obstacles life throws at you. With her strong lyrics and unforgettable vocals, Tori Kelly will rain “Confetti” to celebrate your self-empowerment.

Coco Lee “A Love Before Time”

From the movie “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,” Chinese-American singer Coco Lee sings one of movies’ iconic song “A Love Before Time.” The song is about how two lovers will find each other after going apart from each other. “A Love Before Time” mixes traditional Chinese production with contemporary pop to create a memorable song for the movie.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
