This is not the first roommate goodbye letter you’ve ever seen and it definitely won’t be the last. And you know something, I don't think that is a bad thing. A lot of people clearly enjoy their roommates and isn’t that all you can ask for when you live in a dorm? My roommates are my family. We fight. We dance. We laugh. We cry. We clean. We mess up. I think it’s safe to say I’ll miss them a ton, and I’ve got some thank you's to give out before we depart.
Dear Roomie Number One,
Thank you for being understanding when my side of the room looks like a tornado struck. Thank you for supporting my weird health kicks, dealing with my snotty kleenexes everywhere when I was sick all the time, letting me listen to my music on my record player, and not hating me when my mood went from sad to angry for no apparent reason at all. You were my first friend in college. Ever. I remember messaging on Facebook, losing touch, and then getting that email that we’d be living together. I remember you walking in on move-in day with your parents and boyfriend and thinking this is the girl I will live with for a whole year. Little did I know how awesome you’d be or how great we’d get along. I can’t thank you enough for attending events and going out with me when we didn’t know anybody else. Thank you for speaking English. Thank you for allowing me to create happy roommate stories and not horror stories.
Dear Roomie Number Two,
You are the most enthusiastic and genuinely kind-hearted human I have ever met. In the beginning of the year, we were not close. You lived across the bathroom from me and that was about it. Even so, I admired you for your ability to make any situation a positive one and the capability to talk to just about anyone; a skill I do not possess. You make everyone you talk to feel important, myself included. Thank you for having dance parties with me. Thank you for letting me practice my makeup skills on you. Thank you for becoming one of my favorite people. I don’t know what I’d do without a soup and black bean loving person in my life.
Dear Roomie Number Three,
Thank you for teaching me all kinds of things. I am beyond grateful for you and your dedication to what you care for. If you want something, you do not give up until it is yours or you have achieved it. You have a big heart that I really admire. You’re not afraid to let loose at times and buckle down when need be. Thank you for teaching me to have an open mind. Thank you for being someone who is always and unapologetically herself; something I need to learn to be. You put all of your everything into anything you do and I truly respect you for that. Thanks for helping me educate myself on fitness on account of you have a vast knowledge of it. I’ll see ya next year, neighbor.
Dear Roomie Number Four,
You are one of my best friends. You know almost all of my issues and don’t judge me for them. You listen to my problems and give me the best advice you can. You listen to me complain. A lot. You motivate me to study, work out, and eat healthily. Our work ethic is the same and we have nearly identical values. Thank you for being honest with me about literally everything. If my hair looks horrible, you tell me. If it looks bomb, you tell me. You don’t hold back and always have my best interests at heart. We fight for like, twenty minutes, and then we’re over it. One of my favorite memories will be when you told me to get out of your room and I sat down in your chair; there to stay. Thank you for roller-blading with me to JJ’s a half an hour early for $1 subs. Thank you for always venmoing me after you get more money in your bank account. Thank you for jujuing on that beat with me. Thank you for dealing with me when I’m in my moods and never forgetting to tell me that I’m in a mood. Thank you for being vegan with me for two days and then proceeding to eat ice cream the following night. Thank you for not giving me mono, pneumonia, or pink eye. Thank you for equating all humans to animals. Thank you for coming up with a morse code with me. And, in all seriousness, I can’t thank you enough for coming into my life and becoming my life-long friend.
Here’s to more family dinners in the upcoming years. Ily ten milly.
Love,
Brittany
