Dear Younger Me,
I hope I’ve made you proud. Life has thrown me a lot of curveballs lately, but I know that in order to succeed, one must learn to overcome unexpected obstacles. At this point in your life, you wish you could just grow up and enjoy full freedom. I wish more than anything that I could go back in time and show you all of the reasons why you need to take full advantage of the life you live now. With freedom comes responsibility, and you have all the time in the world to be a responsible adult. Please use these early years of life to your advantage. Cherish them. Make them your own. Never let a single moment go to waste.
Dear Younger Me,
At this point in your life, you have matured. You quickly realize how fast it is to lose the “lifelong” friends you made in middle school, yet you also know how easy it is to meet new people. You understand how fast it is to fall in love with someone, but I wish I could go back in time to show you the difference between love and lust. I dream of the day when I can let you know that the person you are crying over in your bed every night is so insignificant to the bigger picture. There are so many positive things coming your way, just please be patient for what’s to come.
Dear Younger Me,
You’re older now, but not as old as you think you are. You have hit what seems like almost every bump in the road. You cannot catch a break. One small sliver of hope shines through, yet a million grey clouds are up ahead. One step forward and two steps back. I wish I could show you the concept of finding the silver lining, the positivity in every circumstance. I wish I could help you understand that your “life plan” may not always work itself out, but that’s okay. You are too young to give up on your dreams now. Please know that your happiness in life is whatever you make it to be, not what others think it should be.
Dear Younger Me,
You are not so young anymore; you are much older. I hope you take every person you love and remember everything about them. I hope you do “the little things” for someone and understand that not every one you lose is a loss. You have gone through heartbreak, family deaths, a loss of self-worth, and I wish I could be there to comfort you and show you the person you are today. I know it seems tough now, but I promise you that it gets better. I wish I could tell you all of these things, and I wish that you can see how far you’ve come. I know life was not always easy, but it sure is a hell of a ride.
Dear Younger Me,
I hope I’ve made you proud.Sincerely,
Your Current Self
