An Open Letter To Winter Break

Why Every College Student Is Ready For Winter Break

An Open Letter To Winter Break
LifeStyleMag

Twas the night before finals, and when all through campus

Not a student stopped studying, not even the smartest.

The books were stacked high in the library with despair,

In hopes that winter break would soon be there.

Dear Winter Break,

The moment we have been waiting for all semester--winter break--is right around the corner, and we are all ready to take some time off from the papers, exams, and projects and just relax. Many of us have been waiting for you all semester and others realized from the stress of final exams how important you are. Here are some of the reasons why we need you and why you're one of the most significant months out of the year.

We need to have the time to sleep. Even the best time managers out there have to admit that during college we lose time to rest and miss out on sleep. Between the work from class and having a social life and a job, most students sacrifice sleep because we don't want to miss out on anything during our college experience. We need the extra time over break to give our bodies some much needed TLC and make up all the missed hours of sleep from this semester.

We miss our families and friends. Whether your group of high school friends is having a big get together, or your families' holiday parties are coming up, we cannot wait to reconnect with those we love. The break gives us a few days here and there to spend time with our loved ones and reminisce about everything that we are thankful for. We miss those special people, and winter break is the perfect time to see them.

We need to eat something other than cafeteria food. Literally anything tastes better than the dining hall at this point in the semester. But we all are excited to have mom cooking our favorite meals and taking care of the most important part of our bodies--our tummies. And besides her, we now have the opportunity to hit our favorite restaurants and eat something other than wawa at 2 am.

We are too stressed and lost all motivation. Fifteen weeks of work doesn't seem like much in comparison to the remainder of our lives, but we are stressed from all the deadlines and piles of work, and just need a break. After consistently putting in effort to have good grades and balance the rest of our time, we are drained and lack motivation to keep giving 100%. We are stressed, drained, unmotivated, and a little crazy at this point.. So winter break, you need to save us.

We want to spend the holidays with peace. Winter break is the time to forget about all things school related and just enjoy the holly-jolly good times with our loved ones and relax. It's the most wonderful time of the year, and every college student knows that those moments are spent with friends and families and help remind us how thankful we are to have them.

With that being said, winter break, we owe you a much needed thank you in advance for the next month of freedom. Us exhausted college students are going to cherish all of the moments this break because I know for me personally it has been one hell of a semester, and I'm sure we all feel the same. So here's to you winter break, I cannot wait for the upcoming moments together.

Sincerely,

Every Exhausted College Student

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
