An Open Letter To UNC Charlotte

These construction projects are getting out of hand and you know it.

Dear, UNC Charlotte.

Hey, kiddo? How’s it going? Weather has been a bit nicer lately, right? I agree. Now that we’ve gotten the formalities out of the way, let’s get down to why I’m really here. First, just let me say that I’m only bringing this up because I love you. You’re a wonderful campus, I feel like I belong here and I couldn’t see myself being anywhere else other than here. That being said, I’m a bit concerned.

You’ve looked a bit different lately. Not sure what I mean? It’s okay, it's common for people to be in denial when they have a problem. I’m of course referring to the numerous construction projects that have been going on as of late. Now I understand that you like to build, that you like to improve and build. But have you ever considered that maybe you’re getting a little out of hand?

I respect and admire your drive to innovate, but what about the rest of us? What about me, UNC Charlotte? The other day while I was walking to my class and noticed that two of the shortcuts I commonly take was blocked off because of construction projects. It just so happened that I was in a bit of a hurry due to staying up late and then sleeping in the next morning despite having a class. On those mornings, and there are many of them, I was always counting on being able to take a shortcut through the Belk Plaza or taking the path under the bridge in South Village. However, not one, but both areas have now been closed off due to construction.

These are only two of your construction projects. Let’s not forget the two at the Union, the parking deck expansion, and the recreational center, and the one going by the SAC fitness center, really what even is going there? My point is, UNC Charlotte, that I think you may have a problem. Six construction projects going at one time is a bit excessive.

I think it’s time to hang up the construction contracts, and the let the camous go without the sound of building tools for a while. Because we love you the way you are, UNCC. In the words of Bruno Mars, you’re amazing just the way you are.

Now give it a rest with the construction already.

Sincerely,

A Niner who wants her shortcuts back.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
