An Open Letter To My Most Trusted Companion

Thank you for being there for me and being you.

An Open Letter To My Most Trusted Companion
Aiden Meyer

To my open-minded friend:

Thank you for being there. For being the one to brave the hard discussions when I need to work out my problems to move forward in my life. To being open to talking about anything. To listening to my crap when I just need someone to talk to. When you listen, I know there is always someone there for me. You have helped me open myself in many ways. How far we have come from the day I first spoke to you.

Thank you for trusting me. For letting me share your secrets, as I share mine with you. To the times where all we need someone to vent to. To the places in our minds we have brought each other out of. When we talk to each other, I know there is the respect and trust we both need to rely on each other. You have helped me to open up to more people in life. How far we have come from the day you first spoke to me.

Thank you for keeping things honest. For giving me the answers I needed to see through the problems. To keeping me on the straight path, even when it feels like others try to push me off the broken path. When analyzing my life becomes an easy puzzle piece for you to mash together, even if I do not see it myself. You have given me a sense of realization in times of need. How far we have come from the day we first opened up to each other.

Thank you for being my partner-in-crime. For experimenting with life for me, even when it does not make sense. To breaking the little rules, even if it does not get us in trouble. To the times we hide and talk, even if it were just a few minutes. When we speak privately, I know you are always there to listen, even in the most inconvenient of times. You have talked to me enough to give me a sense of peace in my life. How far we have come since the day we became thick as thieves.

Thank you for understanding I needed you in my life. For being there at any waking moment. To the times when it felt as if there were no one else to talk to. To the places we have gone just to reach a little equilibrium. When we know just by tapping on each other’s shoulders that everything is ok. You have helped me work through my problems—the thick and the thin. You encourage me to tackle my problems head on and learn from it. How far we have come since the day you became one of my greatest friends.

Thank you for everything. For understanding you are in my life at the right time and the right place. To the times, we coincide and mesh well. To the smiles, we bring each other. To the talks where you have pushed me to go for my dreams. When I need someone, I know I always have someone to call and turn to. You have been there for me, and I hope I have done the same for you. How far we can keep going in our friendship, I hope we know.

Thanks for being you.

Love,

A devoted friend.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
