An Open Letter to Tomi Lahren
The Ringer

Dear Tomi,

You don’t know me and you probably never will, but I know you. I see you. I sometimes even care enough to watch your show, Final Thoughts, or tidbits from it; however, I do not watch to support you. I watch because I am astonished at some of the things that come out of your mouth. I am baffled at some of the “facts” you talk about and share to Americans across the country. I don’t think you understand that what you say has a direct effect on the population. You see, some of the information you feed to the public are lies. They’re lies, Tomi. You make these statements about sensitive subjects because in your privileged opinion you have come to believe they’re 100 percent true.

You’ve claimed that the Black Lives Matter movement is “the new KKK” which, let’s be real Tomi, is far from the truth. You’ve claimed that, “Americans stand up and fight for faith, family, and freedom. Syrians run away.” Really Tomi? You actually think innocent victims of an extremely heinous war “run away” from their faith, family, and freedom? That’s unbelievable. You’ve claimed that “The Left [says that] if you disagree with us you are a Nazi or a Fascist and our violence against you is justified.” Believe it or not Tomi not all leftist’s think this way. You can’t just make an unbiased assumption about a whole race or a whole group of people based on the actions of a few. You can’t just proclaim to your audience that all Black Lives Matter followers turn to looting and rioting because that’s what you saw in the media. Because sometimes, more like most of the time, the media has a funny way of stirring the pot and showing its audience an instance that doesn’t reflect the actual truth at all. You can’t just proclaim that all Syrians run away from their homeland when they’re fleeing for their lives. I mean, wouldn’t you “run away” if you found yourself stuck in the middle of a war zone that has killed or made over half of your countries population flee from their homes? You can’t just proclaim that all leftists believe that people with differing opinions are “Nazis” or “fascists” and that violence against them is actually justified. I’m sorry to burst your bubble but there are leftists who believe that you and everyone else who share dissimilar opinions are decent human beings. And as for the justifiable violence, no empathetic human being believes that violence towards another person is, under any circumstance, okay.

Listen Tomi, I know this letter is not something you would necessarily enjoy to read but it’s important. It’s important because you have some things that not many people have. You have a huge platform. You have an incredible amount of followers. You have a voice that a lot of people listen to. I can’t deny any of these things but I hope if you ever happen to come across this letter that you would utilize these things better. Maybe instead of pouring out unsupported propaganda to your audience you could show actual facts about the Black Lives Matter movement. Maybe you could spread love for those innocent children, mothers, fathers, teenage girls and boys, etc. who are unimaginably afraid for their lives as they attempt to flee Syria. Maybe you could show an understanding that not all leftists are hateful and violent and want to bash anyone who has a different opinion. Maybe if you did these things Tomi, we could all be better. Just maybe.

From,

A hopeful leftist

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
