Dear Hometown,
Every time I come home from school, it seems like nothing has really changed. Well maybe a few things have, but for the most part everything looks as it was left. I spent so many years wishing I could get away from here and go off to college. Yes, it's great but there really is nothing like home.
You are where my family is. It's where the house I have lived in for 20 years is. Now, I only get to spend a few weekends, summer, and holidays here. I grew up in this backyard, playing on the swings and working on my shot.
Some of my closest friends still live here. Some didn't go away for school and other are only back the same times I am. No matter what happens though, you can't replace those friends you have known since you were three. You grew up together and watched each other go though things we thought were traumatic back then.
I played every sport imaginable here. I spent so many summer days in the park, playing soccer, softball and basketball. I had so many different teammates and coaches over the years. I see one of them now and then, and think about how long ago that was. I remember the concession stand and taking forever to figure out what type of popsicle I wanted. I went to dance class here and will always remember getting all dolled up to get on stage.
I went to school here. I learned some pretty important lessons inside the classroom and outside it. I'll never forget those awful days when of having standing recess, thinking it was the end of the world. I'll never forget the friends that I made and the laughs we shared.
This is where we have feast and parades. I could never replace all the fun of the excitement and the awesome food. I don't regret spending so much money on tickets for those rides. I'll never forget that one time I was in the parade and it felt like the longest walk of my life.
This is where my church is. It's the place where I found faith and friends. It's were people seem to never forget about me and are always asking how I am when I come back.
This is where the library is. Although I don't read too much anymore, my love for books started here. Now I am becoming smarter by going to college and maybe all those books had an impact on my major choice.
This is where I learned to drive a car. And yes, it took me forever to learn how to back up a car. But on these streets I learned a skill, that could take me anywhere now.
Thank you hometown for helping me become me,
