Here's what life has to throw at you.

Dear past self,

First, I don’t know who told you bangs were a good idea, but they’re not and they will never be. I know that they were cute back in like 2004, but now they are gross. Let them grow out please I beg of you! Second, get those contacts sooner! They will work wonders. Trust me. Lastly, please stop thinking people are talking behind your back. I can tell you that they are not and even if they are, ignore them. They are not worth it. Just focus on yourself, you dreams, and school. Everything will be okay.

Stop stressing over everything. Please. It is not healthy. Stop overthinking everything. You will turn out to be a great person. In the 6th grade, you have friends and you fall in love. No, not with a boy but something a whole lot better. Reading! I know, crazy. You would never have thought that we would love reading boring old books. But, surprise, surprise it’s your major. Along with communication, you have a very busy schedule. But more on that later. Right now, I’m going to tell you about high school.

I know you think that high school sucks, and it does. But half of these people you are never going to talk to again. You might see them in the future, but for right now, you don’t. I know you think that wearing all those friendship bracelets were cool and putting one random braid in your hair was cute, but it wasn’t and it still isn’t. Yes, all those bracelets you wore were cute but not ones that went all the way up to elbow. Also, jeans are not bad. They are fine. They are also the only pair of pants you wear in college. So, get used to it. College. You will love it. The first thing you do is rush into a sorority and it’s the best thing ever. I won’t tell you what sorority you rushed into, but you will never regret it. As for the reading, it will grow on you trust me. You will want to be a doctor at first, but then you change your mind. That’s why you will take Latin (thank Alexa for that one). Not to mention you meet awesome people and get an awesome job. You will love it. Trust me.

Past self, the one thing you need to remember is that you need to be true to yourself. Everything will fall into place if you are. Don’t let people push you around. If you do, then you will be miserable. You need to focus on yourself and not anyone else. Be true to who you are and you will figure everything out and be amazing. Don’t try to fit in. You will be miserable. Don’t worry about your hair, clothes, makeup (it’s a pain in the ass anyway), shoes, who likes you, and who doesn’t. Don’t waste your money on silly thing like that. Spend it on books.

You will hate me for this or maybe even thank me. I am just telling you what you are instore for.

Love,

Your future self.

P.S You get a tattoo. It's awesome.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
