An Open Letter To My Best Friend

Sometimes the soul just needs a bit of chick-flickin’ and carbs, and you’re the perfect carb-panion.

Dear Best Friend,

I know we hate all things cheesy, but bear with me for this.

Thank you for being that one person I know will always be there. Thank you for making me laugh like no other. Thank you for being the most kind-hearted individual I have ever met.

I know my puns can sometimes get out of hand, but somehow you laugh through them. I haven’t met one person you haven’t made feel like the most important person in the room, just by how engaged you are in every conversation. I admire how kind and respectful you are to every person you come in contact with.

I know I easily blow things out of proportion, so thank you for keeping me grounded. Thank you for understanding that, at a certain time, breaking my phone feels like the end of the world, but reminding me that it really isn’t. I know I can get caught up in the moment, but thank you for calming me down and helping me see the bigger picture.

Thank you for always being a text away if I need to vent about that last episode of our favorite show, or if I can’t decide if I like Thai food or not. Thank you for also letting me text you every time I’m sad or just feel a little off. Somehow, through your magical words, you always make me feel better.

Thank you for always embedding into me the evil of judgment. I would never be so open-minded if it weren’t for you. You taught me to see life and people with a new set of eyes, and I will forever be thankful for that.

Thank you for helping me make decisions (or at least giving your opinion because 95 percent of the time I do the opposite). From which outfit to wear to what filter to use on Instagram, you’re always there, ready to assist.

Thank you for having pizza nights with me. Sometimes the soul just needs a bit of chick-flickin’ and carbs, and you’re the perfect carb-panion.

Thank you for wearing workout clothes with me when I want to have a lazy day.

Thank you for making sure you’re the only one that gets to pick on me.

Thank you for loudly belting out radio music with me on car rides.

Thanks for being a pillar of strength.

Thanks for making me see light when I’m in a dark place.

Thanks for being the light.

Above all, thank you for putting humor into my life. You've helped me learn how to laugh at myself and not take things so seriously. I am so thankful to have you in my life. Without you, I wouldn't be me. You're the missing puzzle piece to my heart. The biggest star in my galaxy.

Love,

Your sappy best friend

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
