Sister,
I will always be the little annoying sister that you will always remember me as. The little girl that you were forced to share a room with for years, who would wake you up on Christmas morning to tell you what "Santa" brought you, long after you stopped believing. I hope you never forget how I annoyed you when you brought home your first boyfriend, or how I would wear your clothes once I fit into them. Never forget watching "Unwrapped" late at night or "Hocus Pocus" during Halloween.
I remember the night of all the fighting and how you kept us busy with a bonfire and talking. You tried to make us smile on what would come to be one of the worst nights of our lives. Before we knew it, we grew up, on our own with our dad and a new adventure ahead of us. You became an adult as a senior in high school. I understand now how hard that must have been for you, but you never failed to help us. Eventually, we set up a system and had a normal routine. You seemed more like a mom rather than my sister, but that was just what we needed.
I remember you graduating high school thinking that would never be me. I never thought I could fill your footsteps, but a short while later it was me getting my diploma. As I walked by you at graduation, I saw the tears in your eyes. When you told me how proud you were of me, I was so happy to have made you proud. The thought of going off to college scared you as much as it scared me. Now, I am 200 miles away from you.
I miss talking to you every day. I especially miss when you would let me know about our favorite books becoming movies or what you were making for dinner that night. I miss the stories about your crazy cats and when work is so terribly boring that Netflix isn't even fun. Thanksgiving cannot come fast enough in my eyes.
Soon, we will be wedding dress shopping and drinking champagne, and crying over the fact that you are really getting married. I can't believe I will get to watch you walk down the aisle in the dress of your dreams. And I will get to be standing by your side on your wedding day and crying my eyes out as you marry the man you love. I hope you know that I will always have your back like you have always had mine.
Sister, I cannot thank you enough for leading me through life how you did. Thank you for building me in to the person I am today. I love and miss you so much.
