When you go off to college for the first time, the thought of sharing a small space with another person that you don't even know yet can be agonizing. But when you find the right person, they become more than just someone you share a room with. They become your temporary mom while you're away from home, and your best friend for years to come.
To the girl who in just a few months became more than just my "roommate,"
As roommates, there is no unspoken contract that says you're obligated to be best friends with each other. You either hit it off, or you don't. It's crazy to think that some people just aren't that close with their roommates, and for that, I am SO happy that we are. We are so unbelievably lucky to have found each other. Now, we are attached at the hip and I'm pleasantly surprised that you're not tired of me already. We do everything together. EVERYTHING. From going out on weekends to sitting in bed late at night watching Gossip Girl. From almost making it to the gym in the mornings to our weekly trips down to the laundry room. Even the things we dread, we still enjoy doing together. We even have separation anxiety when one of us goes to class, leaving the other behind to sit in the room, awaiting their return. I can't even imagine what it'll be like when we go our separate ways over the summer.
Thank you for all that you do for me. I know it hasn't been too long that we've been here but you have already done so much to show how much you care about me. Whenever I'm the slightest bit upset, you can tell and you remind me that everything is going to be okay. You comfort me when I need you. I know that when I'm sick, you'll take care of me and you know that I'll do the same for you. You're not only my roommate but you're my mom-away-from-home. When we became roommates, we made an agreement to always be there for each other. Four years from now, even when we don't live together anymore, that agreement will still remain. Thank you for being you! I love you.
Love,
The girl who lives across the room
