Thank you for caring about me and protecting me. Thank you for being someone I can look up to. Thank you for being such a great older brother.

A Letter To My Older Brother
Michelle LaFranca

To My Big Brother,

We have the kind of relationship that a lot of siblings would kill to have. Though we annoy each other 24/7 when we're together, we know that we each have each other's backs no matter what. I love how we're able to bond over the fact that we don't believe we look alike, even though everyone else seems to think we do. I love the fact that whenever one of us is crying, the other is always right there ready to beat up the person that caused us to cry. I love that even from over 500 miles away, I still know I can talk about anything with you.

I've grown up looking up to you and aspiring to have the warm, kind-hearted personality that you have. You can light up a room with smiling and starting conversations with just about everyone; except don't get too excited, I still think you talk way too much. You have a drive that not many others have, and when you want something, you go for it. I mean really, I don't know many other people who can say their brother is a United States Marine. From you, I've learned that hard work and a positive attitude come a long way.

Being away for college has made me think about how much I miss having you around. Every text I send you makes me remember the countless amount of letters I wrote to you when you were away at boot camp. Thankfully, I don't have to wait weeks just to get a response back with a text. Even from far away, you still continue to teach me thousands of lessons. You also still continue to push my buttons like no one else can.

I just wanted to thank you for pushing me to be the best at everything I do, whether that's getting me to squat more at the gym, or making sure I do well in school. Thank you for caring about me and protecting me. Thank you for being someone I can look up to. Thank you for being such a great older brother. I cannot wait to see you again.

Love,

Your Little Sister

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
