To My Teachers Who Made Me A Better Person

From kindergarten all the way my college professors, you have taught me more than just school lessons and have made me a better person.

I was always the kid who loved school. From the first day of preschool, and even in college, the idea of going to class and learning excites me more than anything. A lot of that had to deal with my love of learning, which also had developed because of my teachers. They don't always get the recognition they deserve, but all teachers are good in their own ways, and we all find our favorites.

So to my teachers, who spent more hours awake with me than my family. Thank you for putting up with me, and my crazy classmates.

I'm sorry for the times we didn't listen, the times we just didn't want to learn, and for talking back. We were tired, but we now know you were tired too. We didn't know the hours of work you put in behind the scenes. The hours you will never get paid for, the time you sacrificed, and the times you may have questioned staying in the job you had. But thank you for doing so, because without you we wouldn't be the people we are today.

I wish somehow we could find a way to pay you more, because your job is just as important as a doctors. Without you, we wouldn't make progress or learn, and we would stay in our own little minds. We could learn like we wanted, but we would have never been pushed to our limits to find our true potential.

To my favorite teachers, you have no idea how much I appreciated you. There are so many of you, and yet so few, but you impacted my life. You made me love learning, and remember to try my best. You saw my strengths when I saw weakness. Whether it was in Chorus class or AP English, you saw what I was capable of and taught me what I needed to know.

The teachers who teach us more than just the set lesson plans are the best teachers. The ones who tell us the mistakes they made, and what they learned from them. Not just the smart teachers, but the wise ones; two terms we learn have very different meaning as we get older. You teach us life stories and tips that we need to know. You let us ask questions when we need to. When we have a teacher who recognizes us as more than just a number, we succeed more in those classes. The teachers that understand a grade is just a number, and no amount of homework can make you a better person. We do better in life because of you. So when you let us meditate and watch a class-related, but interesting movie, we appreciate it.

So again, thank you for not just being school teachers, but life teachers. For teaching us right and wrong, helping us grow friendships, and for giving us your love even when we were brats. We know it's sometimes hard to be with us for an entire year, and then let us go. Sometimes its really easy. But to the teachers who I had more than once, you were typically the ones who impacted me most, which is why I made sure I had you more than once.

Whether you were my seventh grade teacher that changed my life and saved me from the bullies, the English teacher who showed me I was capable of taking an AP class in a subject I never thought I was good at, the Chorus teacher who taught me life lessons and let me hang out in her classroom more than necessary, the Chemistry teacher that led me in the direction to my future career, and the third grade teacher who pushed me to learn more and told me to never stop learning. Because of you all I became the best version of myself, I succeed and attend college for the demanding program of engineering, and I still love learning as much as I did at six years old. You all showed that you thoroughly cared, and that makes you not only an amazing teacher, but an amazing person.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
