We all find that one person in college who we connect to. The one that we meet freshman year, and we're just like, "Hey I don't hate you. Let's hang out!" 90 percent of the time, they grow apart and don't get to talk to each other that often. But the other 10 percent of us stay in touch with that person and become best friends with whom we can share anything. That is our person.
Dear My Person,
Thank you from the bottom my heart for not making me feel awkward or judging me when I eat a whole box of honey buns. Thank you for always knowing what I'm thinking even when I don't say it and knowing what I need when I'm too bummed out to talk to anyone. Thank you for being my roommate and thank you for having the same living style as me. Because let's be honest, I don't think anybody else could've handled that mess. Thank you for pushing me and challenging me even when I was scared and too cautious to do anything with my life. Thank you for showing me all of the cool ways of art and opening me up to your weird music. Thank you for sharing stories that will become legacies and fun nights that will always be remembered. Thank you for going on a boat with me. Thank you for being so different from me that we fit perfectly together. Thank you for showing me another way of life and perspectives I could have never imagined.
I know we don't get to talk every day, but you're always one of the first people I share news with or rant to. Even though you're going to live halfway across the world, I know that you will always be my person. You are my sister, my roommate, my next-door neighbor, my competition, the weird girl I met at registration day and my best friend. You are the messiest person I have ever lived with including myself and God bless the man that you're going to be living with for the rest of your life. You are my woman crush Wednesday and my man crush Monday, because you are just so awesome why not have both the days? Never forget the memories we have or the laughs that have filled our room.
You were my first college friend. Soon we will be graduating together. I can't say this without crying, but I'm going to anyways. I will never forget the impact you've had on my life, because you being my friend has helped me grown as a person. I find this David Bowie quote very fitting for you: "I'm just an Individual who doesn't feel that I need to have somebody qualify my work in any particular way. I'm working for me." You always just do your own thing and try to produce the best work that you can for yourself as a perfectionist. Well, I am not a perfectionist but seeing what you do and seeing how you thrive makes me want to become one, whether it's now or in 10 years. So now I will sum up our friendship in a quote from Winnie-the-Pooh. "It is more fun to talk with someone who doesn't use long difficult words but rather short easy words like, 'What about lunch?'"
