Open Letter To My College Friends

Dear Friends that I have just met this past semester,

When it finally came the time to decide where to go to college my senior year of high school, out of my group of friends, I was the only one who decided to go to Tarleton. I was scared because I didn't think I was going to have any friends. I was rooming with three girls that I didn't know, had never met, and to top it all off I was four hours away from home.

Never in a million years did I imagine that I would've made the group of friends I have in just a short semester of college that I know will last a lifetime. We are always on the same page of thoughts, ideas, and weird inside jokes, and honestly if anyone from the outside heard what we were talking about they would probably think we were crazy. There have been countless laughs and so many times we just completely understood each other when no one else would.

One of the best things about having a group of friends that you're absolutely inseparable from is that you're never alone if you don't want to be. There is always someone to go get breakfast with after an early 8 a.m. class, or go get french fries with at 2 a.m., even though all of you are trying a new diet thing where you don't eat fries. When you just don't feel like being alone there is always a door dead bolted so you can just walk on in like it's your own room, and make yourself at home.

From staying up late watching the same movie we watched the two nights before, laying in bed and talking across the room for hours until the room goes quiet and we fall asleep, or driving four hours away to go hiking and explore a new place, there is never a dull moment. Never once since I have gotten to college have I felt like there was no one there to listen, or hang out with, and never have I felt like I didn't have a support system. Being away from home for the first time is a scary thing, but with this group of friends, it has made Tarleton, and Stephenville my home away from home with the best friends anyone could have.

Here's to more semesters, more late nights, new memories, and countless adventures.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
