Dear best friend,

Thank God for technology. If it weren’t for FaceTime or websites that let us video chat and watch Netflix together, I would have missed your face too much.

I know you worry about me when I tell you I’m homesick or just plain sick because once one person catches a bug in college, everybody seems to have it. Thank you for checking in on me randomly and always asking how my day was. It means so much to know somebody cares for you many miles away when you’re in a new place and everything feels so different. Thank you for planning to meet up whenever you can and giving me something fun to look forward to. That first hug when I get to see you is amazing and although I am getting along well with my new college friends, nothing matches the comfort level I have with you. You are the human versions of fuzzy socks and hot cocoa and binge-watching TV shows. You are my go-to when I’m down because you’re the only one who knows just what to say and the first person I want to call when I have good news or a funny joke.

You still manage to make my birthday special and wish me good luck for exams even though we are so many miles apart. It’s almost like nothing has changed and I’ve learned that the things important to our relationship have not changed. The care and concern we have for each other doesn’t go away with distance between us.

Sometimes, I want to fast forward through this college business. I want you to be a part of my daily routine again like you were back in high school, but I’m so lucky that I know to count on you always. If anything, the distance we have between us has only reaffirmed my faith in the strength of our relationship. Thank you for being mine.

Love,

Your best friend

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
